From The Producing Artistic Director

One of my favorite things about my job as Artistic Director is developing new seasons.  We have a great team of dedicated artists on our play reading committee who read dozens of plays every year to help me pare the list down to a manageable level.  I can’t possibly thank them enough for their hard work.  But ultimately, both the pressure and privilege of finalizing each season rests with me.

We try to come up with better seasons every year…which keeps getting harder.  But here we are…our 2024-25 season is ready to launch and it’s one of the most exciting slates of plays we’ve ever put together.  Each one will be brand new to the Greater Cincinnati area…fresh, new, powerful and provocative!

Last year’s season was focused on Identity…this year’s scripts all play on the theme of chaos!  From the chaos of dark minds, to the changes that alter our lives irrevocably, to the outrageous (and farcical) inner workings of the White House, this season offers drama, mystery, comedy and pathos.  You won’t want to miss a single show! I am honored by the hard work and artistry of the wonderful people who choose to share their talents and passion with us at Falcon Theatre.  And I’m thrilled have this wonderful season to offer these artists and you, our amazing and supportive audience.  Now, please sit back, relax and enjoy…our 2024-2025 season.

Sincerely,
Ted Weil
Producing Artistic Director

Cast Biographies

Keith Cassidy (Robert Shaw): Keith is thrilled and honored to be making his Falcon debut with this extraordinary group of artists. He was most recently seen as Lee in the Village Players production of True West. Keith was raised in Cincinnati, but left the area after graduating from Wilmington College. In 2020, Keith returned to teach at his alma mater, the School for Creative and Performing Arts. Some of his favorite productions since returning to the Cincinnati area include Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Marc in Art, Henry Condell in The Book of Will, Charles Babbage in Ada and the Engine, Eddie Carbone in A View from the Bridge, and the title role in Macbeth. In September, Keith will play H.C. Curry in the Mariemont Players production of The Rainmaker. Keith thanks his beautiful wife, Robyn, also an SCPA alum, for limitlessly supporting his theatrical habit.

Brady Dunn (Richard Dreyfus):  Brady is thrilled to be making his Falcon Theater debut as Richard Dreyfuss—the only man on set more anxious than the mechanical shark. Previous roles include Caliban in The Tempest (Fairfield Footlighters), Malcolm in Macbeth (Center Stage), and Karnak in Ride the Cyclone (The Refugee). Offstage, Brady works in lighting and pyrotechnics, which means he’s either setting the mood or setting something off—intentionally, we promise. Huge thanks to his fiancée and favorite scene partner Alaska, his endlessly supportive parents, and director David for the opportunity… and for not cutting the bio at “Brady is thrilled.”

Ted Weil (Roy Scheider): Ted is the Co-Founder and Producing Artistic Director at Falcon Theatre. Over the past 33 seasons, he has been seen on stage in productions including Hamlet, Henry V, Down the Road, Assassins, Rabbit Hole and Yankee Tavern. As a director, he has guided productions of The Rocky Horror Show, Angels In America, To Kill A mockingbird, Master Harold…and the Boys, and most recently, this seasons sold out Hangmen along with his wonderful wife Samantha . He holds a BA in Theater from Northern Kentucky University and has worked in local radio and films as well as with a few other theater companies in town in addition to his work at Falcon. His most recent role was that of “groom” in his wedding to Samantha in November…it was a smash hit! “Thanks to Mom and Dad…I know you’re watching this one. And deepest thanks and love to my wonderful wife Samantha who is the light of my life and convinced me to audition for this show.”

Production Team Biographies

David Derringer (Director):  David is thrilled to be directing his second show at Falcon Theatre after making his directorial debut at the theatre in last season’s Vincent. While David is happy to take all the credit for your enjoyment of the show, ultimately the majority of the credit must be given to the incredible cast for bringing the characters of Shaw, Dreyfuss, and Scheider to life. The great Sandra Forman (NKU Professor Emeritus) once said, “Directing is 75% casting,” and for this play that couldn’t be truer. Special thanks to our fearless stage manager, Katie Ruwe, my second in command, Clint Ibele, Artistic Director Ted Weil for entrusting me with this endeavor, Samantha Weil for her help with costumes, Chad Brinkman with lights, Lycia Cromer for her help scrounging up some props, and Anna Petersen coming in at the 11th hour to help us paint and cut and staple the heck out of the Orca! There truly is not a big enough boat to contain all of their talent. When not burning the midnight oil at the Falcon, David can be found directing the mainstage productions at Milford High School, selling real estate, or at home reading a good book with his wife, Anna, dog, Bowie, cat, Odin, and two fish whose names he can never remember.

Clint Ibele (Assistant Director):  Clint has served in almost every capacity for Falcon Theater, from props, to costumes, to directing, to working backstage, to the front of the house. In addition to directing HIVoices and Falcon Takes Flight he is House Manager and chair of the playreading committee, as well as coordinator for The Play’s the Thing in conjunction with the Cincinnati Public Library. When not at Falcon he volunteers for a local food pantry and plays guitar. He’s especially thankful to be a part of this production and to be working alongside its director and the fine cast and crew of the Orca.

Katie Ruwe (Stage Manager):  Katie is pleased to be joining this production of The Shark is Broken. Born and raised in Cincinnati and a graduate of NKU, she has worked throughout the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region. At Falcon, she has also managed Mr. Parker, POTUS, The Other Place, Breaking the Code, Vincent, Lifespan of a Fact, Silent Sky, Ben Butler, The Agitators, and Yankee Tavern. She has also stage managed with Queen City Opera on productions of Cenerentotla, Iolanta, Der Freischütz, Die Valkyrie, and the world premiere of Tchaikovsky’s Undina Eco-OperaShe has also managed Spinning Into Butter with American Legacy Theater, 100 Days with the KNOW Theater of Cincinnati, Steel Magnolias with The Story Collective, as well as several Fringe Festival shows with many different and wonderful creative minds. She would like to thank her partner for his outstanding support and the staff at Falcon for their continued trust in her. She sincerely hopes you enjoy this show as much as she has enjoyed working on it!

Ian Shaw (Playwright):  After studying American Studies at Sussex University, Shaw trained as an actor at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. On stage, Shaw played Friedrich in War Horse (National Theatre) and also appeared in several plays in Rep at the Royal Exchange Manchester (Widowers’ Houses, The Importance of Being Earnest, Nude With Violin, The Philadelphia Story, The Brothers Karamazov). He was also in Much Ado About Nothing (West End), Three Sisters (Nuffield/Bath), Private Lives and Closer (Birmingham Rep), and The Rivals (Derby Playhouse & Philadelphia Walnut St).  His first television role was in 1993 in an episode of Casualty. Since then he has appeared in the films Century(1993), Moondance (1995), The Boys From County Clare (2003), The Contract (2006), and Johnny English Reborn (2011). He has also appeared in many TV series including EastEnders, Soldier, Soldier, The Bill, The Queen, Sharpe, Ultimate Force, Ghosts, Silent Witness, and Medics.

Joseph Nixon (Playwright):  Joseph Nixon is the author of(with Brian Mitchell) of the plays Underdogs, Those Magnificent Men, Big Daddy vs. Giant Haystacks and Seven Studies in Salesmanship.. He has written material for Joanna Neary, Jo Caulfield, Jerry Sadowitz and Basil Brush.
