“Master Harold”…and the Boys explores racism, hate and how relationships intertwine and affect each other — for good and for bad.

The story, set in Apartheid South Africa, revolves around the relationship between Hally, the son of an Afrikaner tearoom owner, and two black employees, Sam and Willie.  Sam has served as mentor and father figure for the young white man since Hally was a child. Despite the social pressures and mores of the era, the bond between the two has flourished and only strengthened with time. By evening’s end, however, their friendship is tested; even the deepest and most firmly established relationships are not immune to Apartheid’s deep-rooted, institutionalized hatred.
